November Wellbeing Focus: Men’s Health, Managing Stress, and Supporting Wellness

by Sugarman Occupational Health on 2nd November 2026

As November begins, it’s a time to focus on our health and well-being. Movember raises awareness of men’s health, including mental health and cancer prevention. National Stress Awareness Day (5th November) encourages us to recognise and manage stress, while World Diabetes Day (14th November) highlights the importance of understanding and supporting those living with diabetes. Let’s take this month as a reminder to care for ourselves and one another.

Let’s use take these moments as a reminder to prioritise our health, check in on one another, and approach the season with care and positivity.

Some extra insight from our Mental Health expert, Jake:

On National Stress Awareness Day (November 4th), Sugarman Occupational Health are here to address and manage workplace stress. We recognise it is a strategic investment in the health, productivity, and retention of both employees and clients.

The Impact of Unmanaged Stress- Work-related stress is a significant occupational health issue. It’s defined by the HSE as “the adverse reaction people have to excessive pressures or other types of demand placed on them.” When pressure becomes excessive, the resulting stress can lead to serious consequences:

  • For Employees/Clients: Unmanaged stress can manifest as physical symptoms (headaches, fatigue, digestive issues), psychological issues (anxiety, depression, burnout), and behavioural changes (decreased concentration, irritability, increased absenteeism).
  • For Organisations: High levels of stress lead to reduced productivity, increased sickness absence, higher staff turnover, and a negative impact on overall workplace culture. The financial cost of work-related stress, depression, or anxiety is substantial, making proactive intervention essential.

As occupational health specialists, our focus is on prevention, protection, and support. National Stress Awareness Day provides a vital platform to move the conversation from simply acknowledging stress to implementing effective, evidence-based management strategies.

Stress is a normal human reaction, but an adverse reaction to excessive pressure can be avoided. By actively working with Sugarman Occupational Health, you can build a more resilient, healthier, and more productive workplace.

November brings a range of important national and international health awareness campaigns, offering opportunities to focus on physical and mental wellbeing. From encouraging men to prioritise their health, to understanding and managing stress, and increasing awareness of diabetes, these initiatives help promote healthier lifestyles and ensure people know where to find support.

Movember
Throughout November, Movember shines a spotlight on men’s health, with a particular focus on mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer. The campaign encourages men to talk openly about their health, seek help when needed, and take part in preventive health checks. Growing a moustache, hosting events, or getting active are all ways to raise funds and awareness for this important cause.

National Stress Awareness Day (4th November)
This day is dedicated to increasing understanding of stress, its causes, how it affects us, and what we can do to manage it. It’s an opportunity to promote positive mental wellbeing, encourage open conversations about stress in the workplace and at home, and share practical strategies for building resilience and self-care.

World Diabetes Day (14th November)
Observed globally, World Diabetes Day raises awareness of the growing impact of diabetes on individuals and communities. It focuses on the importance of early diagnosis, effective management, and healthy lifestyle choices to help prevent type 2 diabetes. The day also promotes access to education, care, and support for those living with the condition.
