May Wellbeing Focus: Movement, Awareness and Community Care

by Sugarman Occupational Health on 1st May 2026

May brings lighter days, renewed energy and a focus on movement, appreciation and proactive health. It encourages us to step outside, check in with our wellbeing and recognise the people who care for our communities.

National Walking Month

With longer daylight hours, National Walking Month encourages everyone to step outside and embrace gentle movement. Walking improves heart health, boosts mood and supports mental clarity. Just a short daily walk can create a meaningful shift in wellbeing.

World Asthma Day – 5th May

World Asthma Day raises awareness of a condition that affects millions. Promoting understanding of triggers, correct inhaler use and personalised action plans helps individuals manage symptoms confidently at home and at work.

International Nurses Day – 12th May

International Nurses Day celebrates the incredible work of nurses who provide compassion, expertise and support every day. Recognising their dedication is a meaningful way to show gratitude and highlight the essential role they play in healthcare.

Sun Awareness Week – 11th – 17th May

As the weather brightens, Sun Awareness Week encourages us to protect our skin with SPF, shade and regular skin checks. Promoting sun safety helps prevent long-term damage and supports healthier habits for the summer months ahead.

Mental Health Awareness Week – 11th – 17th May

Mental Health Awareness Week brings communities together to highlight the importance of emotional wellbeing. Encouraging open conversations, sharing resources and building supportive environments can make a real difference in reducing stigma.

International Day of Action for Women’s Health – 28th May

This day champions women’s rights to safe, accessible and respectful healthcare. Raising awareness and promoting education empowers women to take control of their health and supports equality across communities.

World MS Day – 30th May

World MS Day highlights the experiences of people living with multiple sclerosis. Sharing stories, increasing awareness and promoting supportive resources helps build compassionate and inclusive environments.

May invites us to embrace movement, celebrate care and advocate for health, creating positive momentum for the summer ahead.
